President-elect Trump has stated that he intends to abolish the U.S. Department of Education. Other Republicans have flirted with the idea, but never gotten it done. I hope President Trump will follow through on his promise. While eliminating the federal education bureaucracy will certainly not solve all the problems of government schools, it is a great place to start.
However, with Trump at the helm, I’m concerned that many Christians and conservatives will relax, believing that government schools have somehow become “great again.” No matter who is president, the government schools will train children to serve the purposes of government. Even if public schools could be reformed (and they cannot - they are doing what they were designed to do), it could not happen in one presidential term. The dumbing down, the diabolical agendas, the Marxist ideologies are too deeply ingrained to be rooted out quickly. We need alternatives that are not controlled or funded by the government. The next four years are a time to redouble our efforts to remove children from government schools through home schools, micro schools, private schools, church schools, church-based learning centers, and scholarship funds. Consider what you can do. Now, more than ever, it’s time to STEP OUT!
